Baggage Compartment

Rear BaggageThe area behind the rear seats will contain the linear actuator for the flaps and a tunnel for the elevator push rod and the cables for the rudder cable.  The boxed area in the center shows the cover for those.  The rear bulkhead shown in this photo consists of two parts, the lower panel is a single piece of the 1/4 inch glass honeycomb panel.  It will be held in place by four 1/4 turn screws and the shelf shown.  The shelf is made with a high front panel to keep any contents from being thrown forward. It bolts down to side mounts.
Rear BaggageA third piece will be used to block the area between the shelf and the top of the fuselage.  \

All those moving blankets I bought for my move from Houston to Dallas come in handy for keeping the dust and dirt off the project while in the hangar.
Baggage CompartmentThe baggage compartment runs from the area behind the back seat to a bulkhead installed behind the back seat area.

I had run out of prepreg fiberglass panels so I fabricated the upper baggage compartment divider using a light weight 1/4 inch foam covered front and back with fiberglass.  Hard points were installed using 1/4 inch plywood inserts.

I decided to install a storage shelf between the top and bottom divider.  It acts as both a shelf for supplies and a the locking mechanism to hold the upper and lower dividers into place.  The upper divider is bolted to the shelf and the shelf in bolted to side mounts.

The lower separator was constructed from 1/4 inch prepreg fiberglass.  The fits over a console cover that runs from the back seat bulkhead behind the rear baggage compartment divider.
Baggage Compartment
The area of the baggage compartment behind the rear seat includes the flap control motor and the strobe controller.  A tunnel cover goes over the flap motor, the strobe controller, and the elevator push rod.

Initial fitting of the carpet and dividers was a bit tight and I had to trim the carpet back in inch to get a proper fit.  A lot of additional stiching of carpet edging.
Baggage Compartment
The completed baggage compartment installed.  Still need to finish some upholstry but it looks like it is going to be functional.
Baggage Compartment The FINAL Product with all the upholstry in place looks good and provides a nice sized luggage compartment. The shelf will provide storage for small items such as maps and a spare oil container or two.
