I have broken the door preparation into several sections to
keep
the individual pages smaller and give some logical sections. |

The final mounting of the doors required each door
to be attached at the hinges before installing the gas struts that will
hold the doors open.
I fortunately had some extension poles that I could use to hold the doors open while I installed the gas struts.
Once both gas
struts were installed they held the doors open easily which was not the
case with a single strut. I was very concerned about the top edge
of the door hitting the top of the fuselage.
I was concerned that the
struts were too long for the position that I had set for the strut
brackets. As a result, I added a one inch spacer to lower the
strut.
Note: I later removed the spacer and the doors look and operate better but the copilot door does contact the top.
The
spacer is just ugly and stuck down so far that I felt it would be a
hazard when getting in and out of the plane. As a result, I
removed them when I was doing the upholstry work.

With both doors open you can see how high the doors go and why a door handle on the inside was necessary.
Looks like it's getting ready to fly. LOL

This view shows how close the door is to the top of the fuselage when open. It also shows the hinge mounting to the door.
The doors really look good next to the dark blue interior.
